BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT

Rize has the best reserves of tea in Turkey, however, the SMEs in the Tea region is not qualified enough to compete. Hence, the general purpose of the project was to increase the competitiveness of the tea sector concentrated in Rize and its surroundings. More specifically, it wanted to improve the joint R&D innovation and business development infrastructure to be used by tea supplier SMEs.

CONCRETE RESULTS AND OUTPUTS

Result 1 aimed at increasing the institutional capacity to improve the competitiveness of the tea industry. • Strategic Framework for Competitiveness of the Turkish Tea Industry was developed • Business plans, service delivery manuals, a corporate, etc. for TRAC and its departments were prepared • Operationalization of TRAC (Tea Research and Application Centre); Result 2 aimed at increasing Productivity and Product Quality of Tea Producing SMEs. • Strategic Research and Studies were conducted; • Applied R&D Services were delivered; • Supporting Services of the Training and Consultancy Department; Result 3 aimed to increase the Marketing capabilities of tea producers. It will include technical assistance activities and publicity efforts and initiatives to improve collective branding.
