BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT

Rapid migration in major urban areas, namely Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep and Erzurum (DGES), have adverse impacts in Turkey. To reduce these unfavourable effects, EKOSEP aimed to support social integration and environment-related infrastructure problems due to migration in the selected provinces in a multi-actor manner. Furthermore, it aimed to improve the capacity of local administrations in conducting joint projects and helped to build a local capacity to enhance resources in planning and determining the type, quality and quantity of services.

CONCRETE RESULTS AND OUTPUTS

• A critical capacity was developed within the DGES to plan, organise, provide and manage adequate public services for a rapidly growing population, • Rural-urban migrants were contributed through integration in DGES through 18 preconceived pilot projects. • The project supported small-scale initiatives addressing identified local needs, • The project improved joint project planning and implementation capabilities of the governorships and municipalities.
